INTERNATIONAL DAY 0F “DECENT WORK FOR ALL” WAS CELEBRATED UNDER THE AEGIS OF PAKISTAN WORKERS FEDERATION ON 7TH OCTOBER, 2009 BY HOLDING CONFERENCES, SEMINARS AND RALLIES IN ALL MAJOR CITIES THE COUNTRY
GOVERNMENT SHOULD ENSURE PROVISION OF DECENT WORK FOR EACH MALE AND FEMALE WORKER, RESPECT OF THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS OF THE WORKERS NAMELY FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING, SAFETY, HEALTH, SOCIAL PROTECTION, ADEQUATE WAGES AND DIGNITY OF WORK TO THE WORKING MEN AND WOMEN.
International Day of Decent Way was celebrated under the aegis of Pakistan Workers Federation on 7th October, 2009 by holding conferences, seminars and rallies in all major cities of country including Rawalpindi, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan, etc. The main conference was held at Bukhtiar Labour Hall, Lahore which was participated by large number of trade union representatives and workers and addressed by Mr. Osama Tariq, Deputy General Secretary, Ch. Nasim Iqbal, Regional President, Ejaz UL Haque Siddiqui, Sajjad Hussain Sha, Salah-ud-Din Ayubi, Khushi Muhammad Khokhar, Saeed UL Hassan Secretary Youth, Ch. Noor, Ch. Maqsood and other representative of the Federation.
They highlighted the importance of celebrating “International Day entitled Decent Work for All” for provision of Decent Work for each male and female young worker and respect of the Fundamental Rights of the workers namely Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining and Safety, Health and Social Protection, adequate wages and dignity of work and urged the Government to take positive steps to check high price hike of essential commodities, raise employment opportunities for the youth entering into labour market every year by provision of meaningful education and training to each child, open the closed mills and factories by provision of cheaper and abundant electricity, abridging the irrational gap between the rich and poor, not to privatize the national public utilities in the larger public interest and raise their productivity with enlightened management and team spirit of workers and management. They also urged the Government to evolve policy of Economic Self Reliance and stop the policy of heavy loans.
