The ’Confederation des Travailleurs du Secteur Prive’ (CTSP) will continue its activities against two new labour legislations which were imposed on the Mauritian people on the 2nd February 2009 on the World Day for Decent Work.

The CTSP will conduct 11 days of activities beginning on the 26 of September to the 7 of october 2009. This second WDDW has a greater importance for workers of the private sector in Mauritius this year. Workers have lost many of their acquired rights gained through years and years of struggle. Mainly the right to a severance allowance for losing one’s job before the age of 60. More and more jobs are being converted to Contract and Agency Labour which represent a real menace to right for a decent salary, decent condition of work, workplace free from hazardous environment. A menace also to women and to migrant workers.

On the 26 of September we will have a workshop on the Employment Rights Act which has rendered overtime work compulsory but computation for payment of same only after completion of 90 hours work in a fortnight.

On the 29 of September the CTSP will launch a Website.

Following same a national petition will be sent to every corner of the country up to the 7th of October.

Finally on the 7th of October, the CTSP will hold a visibility action on the World Day for Decent Work in Rose Hill. Pamphlets will be distributed to everyone. The petition for a Portable Severance Allowance Fund which will be addressed to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance as well as the Minister of Labour, will be an ongoing process on that day.

In 2008 we marked the WDDW by unveiling a Monument. We intend to mark the 2nd WDDW in a dignified way as we believe that ’the world is but one country and mankind its citizens’. Workers have a right to live decently.
